This leads me to believe I need to review ALL the places I've said I'm never shopping at again. Maybe yelp can bring some real changes in this world! Power to the yelple! |

| Woodstocks update |
[Aug. 5th, 2009|12:09 pm] |
Ha! So I changed my Woodstocks Pizza four-star review on yelp to a two-star review (based on the crappy service when I wanted delivery). One of the co-owners emailed me because I took away the good review, and they really only want good reviews, and wanted more details about what happened.
I told her. I hope they take it into consideration. I'm not sure if I'll remove the review if they say that they can't start delivering to our area, but if they do change their delivery area, I'd be more than willing to change my review again.
I guess people really do pay attention. Although not when I send them an email directly, only when I change my review on yelp. HAHA! |

| Places I can never shop again: |
[Aug. 4th, 2009|01:44 pm] |
1) Borders
So once I got mad at them for having a card. Why does a bookstore need a card? It said sale price, but apparently it's sale with card. I don't think that's a sale at all. It's false advertising. I got irate and yelled at the woman that I was never shopping there again.
2) Woodstock's Pizza
They deliver to Kresge college which is further away (mileage) than my house. WTF?!? I'd order pizza more often if they'd deliver. Although this is one place that I have been to, it's only when someone can pick it up and bring it by. I really don't get it much anymore. The main problem is that they delivered to my house sometimes even though it was outside of their delivery area. That's just uncool. You should either do it, or not, but you can't choose depending on how busy you are.
3) 41st Avenue Cinema
They wouldn't take my coupon! I got it off the internet for buying a DVD and the website said they would take it. When I told them that, they responded, "You can't believe everything you read on the internet." You know, I don't care if they did or didn't take it. I just wanted them to DO something about the fact that it was there. They didn't seem to care! Stupid people drive me crazy. I guess they probably don't get paid enough, but they could have been less rude.
4) CVS Pharmacy
Okay, I really hate cards. I wish companies didn't feel the need to track all my purchases, and really just give people the discount they deserve on everything. Well, CVS just bought out the Long's drugs. Now they have a card. The receipt you get also gives you a bunch of coupons. Apparently people don't actually cut the coupons off. Yesterday, I was waiting in line for at least 15 minutes waiting for the TWO people in front of me to find the coupon they needed and get rain checks for the items they were out of. The check out guy wanted me to get a card. I said no, that the amount of money I'd save on the card wouldn't make up for my time that got wasted waiting for people to deal with the crap they got from THEIR cards. I said I was never shopping there again.
Seriously. I think I have some issues. Maybe I just believe in good customer service. Eventually I won't be able to shop anywhere again! |

| Back in the States |
[Jul. 26th, 2009|10:59 am] |
Well I got back on Sunday the 19th, and I caught some cold before I left London. I suppose it could be the Swine Flu, but the symptoms were so mild, that I doubt it was. Plus I only had the runny nose, stuffy head, cough thing and nothing else.
After being in London though, I realized that I really enjoyed it. It was an amazing place, and moving there in a year is now even more exciting than it was a few months ago before I went to visit. Tom's parents had us over for dinner one night, and it was a really enjoyable time. I really like getting to know them, and maybe I'll eventually meet his brothers sometime as well!
Speaking of Tom, it's been almost a year now that we've met and been together. It's kind of funny, because it feels like the year has gone by so fast, and yet that we've been together for much longer. It's such a weird combination of feelings to have. |

| Oh too much stuff |
[Jul. 16th, 2009|01:36 am] |
So the last few weeks have been a bit crazy and full of events.
I was in Stockholm for a conference, which was a great place to see. The area was amazing, the food was great. It was a bit expensive, but I guess that is to be expected. I learned quite a bit at the conference, and my poster presentation went over well, so that was unexpected.
Then off to London for a weekend, which was nice and relaxing. Then to Paris for two days, and a lot of sights to see there. The Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, and everything else was quite amazing, and I'm glad that I finally saw those things.
Back to London, and a little bit in Brighton. I've been checking out the sites in London, and it really is a great town. Tom's friends are all quite nice and accepting of me being dragged along to all the events he's going to. I wish I had more time to see things, and I guess it's good we're planning on moving here next year when I finish by degree! I think it will be a great place to live (providing I can actually find work in a year!)
Just a few more days and I'm back in Santa Cruz, where I've missed parties, dissertation defenses, visitors, and a score of other things! |

| Oh Maxwell |
[Jun. 10th, 2009|07:28 am] |
There are times I just want to give my cat away. Lately, he's pretty much bothering Tom and I throughout the night. Then this morning I woke up to him puking on the comforter. Now I need to wash it, but of course it's a down comforter, which means I can only do it in a front load washer, which I don't have at the complex. So I worked on cleaning up all his puke. Took a shower. Came back and he now has puked on the OTHER side of the bed and into my clean laundry hamper.
Today is one of those days I want to find a new home for the cat. It's bad enough that we STILL have to keep Davis and Maxwell separated all the time, and that he has managed to tear the carpet and carpet pad out from underneath the doorway to my room.
Anyone have any big ideas on how to make two cats get along? |

| Virgin Atlantic vs. British Airways |
[Jun. 2nd, 2009|10:32 am] |
So on the flight to Mauritius I had the opportunity to fly both of the airlines: Virgin Atlantic round-trip from SFO to London and British Airways round-trip from London to Mauritius. I must say that I've heard some great things about VA, and some terrible things about BA, but my experience seems to be that BA is by far the superior way to fly, at least if you're flying economy.
BA advantages:
Better food (not that either was that great, but BA seemed to do a better job with it) Bigger seats (VA has probably 1 inch less room on either side and the front... felt WAAAY more cramped) Nicer flight attendants Easier check-in Head rests with flip down sides to rest your head on when sleeping Touch screen entertainment Easier viewing of in-flight entertainment
VA advantages:
Bigger screen More entertainment selection
Yup that's it. Really, besides the selection of entertainment on VA, BA has them beat in economy. The check-in process in Heathrow on BA was fast an easy. The check-in process of VA required us to stand in line for 45 minutes (in the lines dedicated to online check-in bag drops) before they had to move us into another line in order to check us in for our flight to San Francisco. I refused at first, since the line was longer, but since they had three people checking in that line, it went much faster than the other lines, so I eventually moved there. But seriously, the check-in was ludicrous and was a pain in the ass. And yes, the seats are significantly smaller. It was stupid. And the amount of food was weird, they gave you a meal on VA, then a tiny snack every two hours or so. It was a bit strange considering it's a 10 hour flight. I also buzzed them for water, which took them about 15 minutes to respond to. They just never bothered to check, even though they walked by several times while the light was on. After that flight, I don't think Tom or I are ever flying VA again. Which is unfortunate, as I love flying Virgin America, they seem to understand how to do an airline right. |

| Twitter feeds |
[Jun. 2nd, 2009|10:32 am] |
I just realized that almost all of my most recent blogs have been copies of my twitter feed. I'm not sure how I feel about that, but perhaps I should either remove that option, or work harder on ACTUAL updates and not just relying on twitter.
Hmmm. |

| Mauritius |
[Jun. 2nd, 2009|10:17 am] |
Well I suppose I should update about my recent trip. Tom and I went to a wedding for one of his co-workers/friends in Mauritius. I must say that the trip was pretty spectacular. The plane ride was a bit of a pain, as Mauritius is practically as far away from the bay area as one can get.
The resort was amazing. The rooms were awesome, and there were quite a few restaurants available. We were on a half-board plan, meaning we got a breakfast buffet and a dinner buffet and we were on our own for the rest. Or we could get a credit toward dinner instead of the buffet. We did end up doing this twice since the buffet, while better than most buffets, was still a buffet and the quality of food from one is still not as good as from a real restaurant.
The wedding was beautiful. It was at a restaurant on the waterfront, with a view of the ocean behind the bride and groom. The vows were sweet, and the groom was bursting with tears because he was so emotional. It was an amazing sight to see. The poems read were perfect, and the celebrant slipped out after the two were married and the mothers were reading poems. It was kind of amusing. There were drinks on the beach, and the dinner was probably the best wedding meal I've ever had. There was dancing until late, and it was really a fine evening.
There was a boat ride to a waterfall and an island that we went on, which was quite enjoyable and relaxing. We rented a car and drove to Port Louis to view the city and see some of the sights there. We also had two fabulous non-buffet non-wedding dinners which were some of the best meals I've ever had.
All in all, I'd say to people to go visit Mauritius at least once. There's something magical about it, and something to be said about a tropical holiday on the other side of the world! Hopefully, I'll be putting my pictures up sometime in the near future. |
